George Lawley's grandson Fred started this yard in Quincy in 1906.  It failed in 1929 and was sold to Harold Noyes, who renamed it the Quincy Adams Yacht Yard.  The yard was on Palmer Street, in the Germantown section of Quincy: the site is now home to a block of condos.

For small plantings, it may be easiest to broadcast the seed by hand.

 larger areas
Mix the seed with a carrier that is free of weed seeds (i.e. sawdust, kitty litter, play box sand, dried distiller's grain).

This results in a lager quantity of material to scatter and usually results in a more even seed distribution.

Fees That Can Be Charged to Individuals for Copies of their PHI

May a covered entity charge individuals a fee for providing the individuals with a copy of their PHI?

Yes, but only within specific limits. The Privacy Rule permits a covered entity to impose a reasonable, cost-based fee to provide the individual (or the individual’s personal representative) with a copy of the individual’s PHI, or to direct the copy to a designated third party. How to Apply for an ID Card in Massachusett

How to Apply for an ID Card in Massachusetts

The process of applying for a Massachusetts ID card can be completed through the state Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) by individuals who cannot drive and those that choose not to operate a motor vehicle.
A state issued ID serves as an official identification document similar to a driving license, without extending any driving privileges. Note that you cannot hold both a MA DMV ID card and a license to drive at the same time. Also, in addition to the standard identification card, the RMV issues liquor ID cards for residents who are of legal drinking age. Find out how to get an ID card in MA by reading the sections outlined below.

Requirements for an ID Card in Massachusetts

When submitting a Massachusetts ID card application, nondrivers will be required to meet several DMV ID requirements. The set of requirements for state ID credentials will slightly vary depending on whether you are applying for a standard or a liquor non drivers license. The following list outlines what you need to get an ID card in Massachusetts:
  • You must be older than 13 years of age for standard state ID credentials or 21 years of age or older for liquor ID cards.
  • You must not own a valid driving license issued by any U.S. state.
  • You must be able to submit proofs of date of birth, legal signature, state residency and a Social Security Number.
  • You must submit a parental consent signature on your MA ID card form (if younger than 18 years of age).
Applicants for Massachusetts state ID cards will be required to submit separate documentation for each category outlined above. For instance, the following documents for ID card credentials are examples of acceptable proofs of state residency: a car registration, a utility bill or a bank statement.
Along with your MA ID card application and proof of residency, you will also have to submit a document containing your birth date, such as a U.S. passport or a birth certificate.
The final required document is a form containing your legal signature, such as a learner's permit, a lease agreement or a military ID. Note that the RMV will not process your request for a state issued identification card unless you submit a verifiable Social Security Number (SSN) as well.

when buying shrimp at the grocery store

One pound of raw shrimp in their shells equals approximately ½ pound of peeled cooked shrimp.

http://www.burn-blog.com/7987/confused-about-shrimp-size/

Some of the standard sizes you’ll find are:
61-70, 51-60 Really small shrimp (about thumbnail size), often used for shrimp salad and spring rolls.

43-50, 36-42 Usually labeled medium or medium large. Good for pasta dishes, po’ boys, tostadas and tacos.

31-35, 26-30 Often labeled large. A good size shrimp that can be used for shrimp cocktail and standalone entrees.

21-25, 16-20 Frequently labeled jumbo or extra jumbo. These are good for grilled shrimp serving six per diner or as appetizers.

U10-U15 Called Colossal, Extra Colossal and Super Colossal. These are expensive but impressive looking. The U indicated on the colossal

shrimp sizes stands for under that many shrimp per pound. Sometimes there are U-8 and U-6 available but you’ll need to mortgage your house to get them!

decluttering and organizing

It’s an old adage, but it’s true: Home is where the heart is. That’s why, according to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), nearly 90 percent of seniors say they want to age in their own home. It’s also the reason that adults with disabilities would rather make accommodations to their own home in order to stay there after experiencing a life-changing disability, than move into a facility that can better accommodate their immediate needs.

Aside from making modifiable renovations to a home to better accommodate equipment such as wheelchairs or walkers, some simple decluttering and organizing can help ensure your home, or that of a loved one, remains a safe, comfortable, and familiar place of them to live long-term. A disorganized, or cluttered home on the other hand, could pose serious health risks to seniors and disabled persons.

Aging Alone Doesn’t Have to Mean Being Lonely | Senior Planet

Aging Alone Doesn’t Have to Mean Being Lonely | Senior Planet: Will you still need me when I’m 84? Loneliness is not tied to relationship status, and it’s a fallacy to assume that marriage or cohabitation is the solution. Ask anyone who’s been in an unhappy, non-communicative marriage. Eric Klinenberg, the author of “Going Solo,” a book about living alone, looks at the emergence of the one-person household as an increasingly preferred living choice. “People who live alone do get lonely,” Klinenberg says, “but so do people in marriages.” Younger people have made living alone a choice; in the under-65 demographic, 15 million live alone and many are actively choosing single lives, at the same time proving that the old equation between living alone and being unhappy no longer holds true. Younger singles are just as happy and healthy as younger people in committed relationships. But what about the 11 million seniors who are leading single lives? According to researchers, many older singles are not doing so well. As we age, many of us start worrying what living alone will be like. Who’ll help if I become ill? What if I feel lonely and isolated? We worry about maintaining social connections if we lose mobility. Those of us who sought a single life and chose not to remarry after a divorce or spouse’s death might find ourselves rethinking our priorities. Should advancing age cause people like me who are single to rethink our status? Is it time to find a partner? In an effort to quantify the feeling of loneliness – a sense of not having meaningful contact with others, accompanied by painful distress – geriatric specialists at the University of California, San Francisco, asked 1,604 adults age 60 and older how often they felt isolated or left out, or lacked companionship. Sixty-two percent of those who reported being lonely were married. (Click here to read more about the study.) Maybe what we need as we plan for old age is to expand our social connections and interactions – not look for a husband.

LED Light Bulb Disassembly | Illustra Lighting

LED Light Bulb Disassembly | Illustra Lighting: The LED chip is the star of the show. These little yellow mounds can come in either a square or round package, be bigger or smaller, and put out different amounts of light. They also come in different colors, usually from a warm white to a cool white. Although they look yellow, the light they put out when turned on is going to be white. Some LED bulbs of this type will use only one high powered LED chip to generate all the light it needs, and some like this one will use multiple smaller chips.

The PCB board with LED chips is made first, and then mounted to the heat sink usually with thermal glue. This one also has a couple screws holding it down. Now the thermal glue is called that because it has two jobs – to glue the board to the heat sink, and to transfer the heat generated from the chip away and into the heat sink.

The heat sink that holds this all together also has two jobs –the most important is to draw heat away from both the LED driver and LED chips. The heat sink is often made of aluminum for its good conductive qualities. The thin fins on the outside are designed to take what little circulating air is available and transfer heat from the aluminum to the air. This keeps the LED bulb as cool as possible, which makes for longer lifetimes.

Finally we have the cover. The cover for an A series LED bulb is usually just a frosted dome. It serves to keep the LED chips away from the elements. But other types of LED bulbs have their LED chips covered with lenses that are greatly effective at focusing the light produced, just like the PAR or MR16 LED.

That’s it for this one. For questions, you can ask them in the comments below, and Ill personally answer them. You can also watch a video version of this article on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYEj-hPIIv4.

Internet-connected cameras like the Nest Cam are popular for spying on—I mean checking in on—family and pets, or alerting you if there’s a burglary afoot. An old phone running on Wi-Fi can accomplish the same.

You’ll need a tiny tripod or some way to hold the phone upright, and an extension cord so it can stay plugged in all the time. Then you’ll need the Manything app:
Like its full-fledged counterparts, it can send you alerts if there’s motion in certain areas, or even save your recordings to the cloud if you pay a monthly fee. (Click here for requirements.) One caveat: Unlike a dedicated security camera, your phone probably doesn’t have a dedicated night mode.

While you’re at it, you can also use your phone to bring your smoke alarm into the digital age. A free Android and iOS app called CleverLoop Smokey listens out for the siren on a traditional alarm when you’re not at home, and sends you a text if one goes off.

BrightNest | Need to Cool Off? Try These 5 Fan Tricks

BrightNest | Need to Cool Off? Try These 5 Fan Tricks: ips and tools will shape up your home & simplify your life.
Need to Cool Off? Try These 5 Fan Tricks Jessica  06.16.16

High temps are breaking records left and right this summer. And if you don’t have central AC, your house is probably feeling like a sauna these days. Enter your savior: the classic fan.

This basic, inexpensive appliance can be the difference between misery and comfort, so don’t just set it down anywhere – maximize its potential! By using a few strategic tricks, your home will drop a few degrees in no time.

Creating a crosswind is a refreshing one-two punch: you’ll get hot air out while also pulling cooler air in. The first step is to close up your house during the day – close windows, drapes, blinds, everything. You don’t want any sun-warmed heat getting in. Note: This will make your home darker, so if you’re partial to a lot of natural light, you may want to choose being warm over a dark room.

When the sun sets, swing open your windows and grab two standard fans. Place one fan facing out of a window in the room you want the coolest. Then, use a second fan to create a strong flow of air towards that fan. Do this by setting up fan #2 so it’s facing inwards, and is either in front of a second window or pushing air into the room you’re trying to cool. This setup will remove stale, hot air out and bring in fresh, cool air

Spice-Glazed Salmon reduce blood clotting, lessening the chance of fatal heart attacks; they can reduce triglyceride levels; and they can protect the heart from potentially fatal rhythm abnormalities.

A Day in the Life » Blog Archive » Spice-Glazed Salmon: In general, salmon boasts impressive amounts of B vitamins, protein, potassium and selenium, but the key reason it deserves a place of honor on your grocery list is its high omega-3 content. Omega-3s are a special type of polyunsaturated fat that have been linked to heart health. Omega-3s reduce blood clotting, lessening the chance of fatal heart attacks; they can reduce triglyceride levels; and they can protect the heart from potentially fatal rhythm abnormalities.

Orange juice with salmon isn’t as weird as it might seem; the combination isn’t too far from a lemon wedge with white fish. O.J. gives the glaze a tangy, slightly sweet flair, and fresh ginger provides a bit of a bite that perfectly complements the fish’s richness.

Serve this with a fruity rice pilaf—sauté a chopped shallot or half an onion in a little olive oil, then add rice and sauté for a minute or two before adding broth or water and 1/2 cup of dried cranberries or golden raisins—and braised bok choy.

For 4 servings:

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 to 3 nickel-sized slices of peeled fresh ginger

1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick

1 teaspoon allspice berries

2 whole cloves

3/4 cup orange juice

4 salmon fillets (about 6 ounces each)

Combine the soy sauce, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, cloves and orange juice in a small nonreactive saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and cook until thickened and syrupy, about 10 minutes. Remove the solids (either pick them out or pour the sauce through a strainer).

Preheat the broiler. Line a broiler pan with foil and spray the rack with nonstick cooking spray. Rinse the salmon and pat it dry with paper towels. Set the salmon fillets on the rack. Broil 5 minutes. Brush the fish with about half of the glaze. Broil until the glaze is lightly browned and the fish flakes easily when tested with a fork, 3 to 5 minutes longer. Serve with the remaining glaze on the side.

Brain scans see proof schizophrenic brain tries to repair itself - UPI.com

Brain scans see proof schizophrenic brain tries to repair itself - UPI.com: "Our results highlight that despite the severity of tissue damage, the brain of a patient with schizophrenia is constantly attempting to reorganize itself, possibly to rescue itself or limit the damage," Palaniyappan said.

Now that the research team has found that brain tissue can indeed repair itself, even at a minimal rate, their next step is reportedly to continue regularly scanning the brains of patients with early schizophrenia.

"These findings are important not only because of their novelty and the rigor of the study, but because they point the way to the development of targeted treatments that potentially could better address some of the core pathology in schizophrenia," explains Dr. Jeffrey Reiss, another member of the research team from the London health Sciences Centre.

"Brain plasticity and the development of related therapies would contribute to a new optimism in an illness that was 100 years ago described as premature dementia for its seemingly progressive deterioration," he said.

The study outlining the discovery was published in the current issue of the journal Psychology Medicine under the title "Dynamic cerebral reorganization in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia: a MRI-derived cortical thickness study."

It's National Moving Month: Avoid a Moving Mishap | Patch: checking out reliable movers online with BBB’s Accredited Business Directory. Here you can read customer reviews and find out more information on over one hundred BBB Accredited mover

To avoid a moving mishap, Better Business Bureau
Serving Eastern MA, ME, RI & VT (BBB) recommends checking out
reliable movers online with BBB’s Accredited Business Directory.
Here you can read customer reviews and find out more information on over one hundred BBB Accredited movers.

May is National Moving Month and BBB urges consumers to check out these tips for hiring a trustworthy moving company:

Do your research.
Look up moving companies on bbb.org. Many movers that are BBB
Accredited Businesses are also AMSA ProMovers; these companies have
pledged to uphold high standards of trust and to resolve complaints
quickly. Note the length of time a mover has been in business and read
reviews from previous customers.

Get at least three estimates.
Written, in-home estimates help you make an informed decision. Show the
mover everything that needs to be moved. Be wary of unusually high or
low estimates. If someone says they can give you an estimate over the
phone or by email, it’s possible they’re trying to scam you.

Get all agreements in writing. Read everything
carefully and make sure you have it all in writing. Get copies of
everything you sign, especially the most important document, the bill of
lading, which is the receipt for your goods and the contract for their
transportation. Never sign any blank forms. Be on the lookout for fine
print or any exclusions to your agreement.

Know your rights. Interstate
movers are required by law to provide you with certain information that
explains the moving process, as well as your rights and
responsibilities during and after the move. Ask for proof of licenses,
insurance, etc.

Protect your possessions. Make sure that
your mover provides full-value protection insurance for any lost or
damaged possessions. Note that insurance is by the pound, so expensive
items such as a flat-panel television may need additional replacement
cost coverage in case they are damaged in transit.

Be wary of unusual requests. If
a mover asks for a large down payment or full payment in advance, that
may be a warning sign. And if a company says it won’t return your items
to you without more money than you agreed to pay, contact BBB or local
law enforcement for help.

Take your valuables with you.
Cash, coins, jewelry, photographs and important papers should be taken
with you or shipped separately using a shipping service with tracking
numbers and insurance.

Ask questions. Don’t be afraid to
ask questions about anything you don’t understand. If the moving company
can’t or won’t answer your questions, you might want to look for
another mover.

Get current news, scam alerts, trustworthy tips and more on BBB’s website.

Does your fitness band really work? Scientists analyse the tracking tech and find Fitbit and others 'no more effective than a pedometer' | Daily Mail Online: Does your fitness band really work? Scientists analyse tracking tech and find Fitbit and others 'no more effective than a $25 pedometer'

Fitness tracking bands have become the must-have accessory for fitness fanatics - but scientists have revealed they may not be as accurate as you think.
Researchers tested several of the most popular models, with participants taking part in 13 different activities, including running and playing basketball.
They said the results showed the bands were at best 'reasonably accurate,' but that most were more than 10 per cent out when estimating calories burned.

HOW THEY DID IT

To test the devices, 30 men and 30 women wore all eight monitors during a 69-minute workout that included a series of 13 different activities, ranging from writing at a computer and playing Wii tennis to playing basketball and running.
Participants also wore a portable metabolic analyzer that researchers used for comparison to test the accuracy of each device.
13 different activities, ranging from writing at a computer and playing Wii tennis to playing basketball and running.
Gregory Welk, a professor of kinesiology at  Iowa State University said the results show that bands have huge differences in terms of accuracy.
'People buy these activity monitors assuming they work, but some of them are not that accurate or have never been tested before,' said Welk.
'These companies just produce a nice-looking device with a fancy display and people buy it.'

The date on the milk carton says it's expired, but is it? - LA Times

The date on the milk carton says it's expired, but is it? - LA Times: "Most people think expiration dates tell you when food is spoiled or unsafe," said Dana Gunders, a senior scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council. "In fact, what it usually tells you is the manufacturer's recommendation for when the food is at peak quality."

The reality, she told me, is that the "use by," "best by" or "sell by" dates on most foods and beverages vary from state to state and are largely arbitrary. "There's no exact science behind this practice," Gunders said.

Send Faxes Online, Free http://www.howtogeek.com/168841/how-to-send-and-receive-faxes-online-without-a-fax-machine-or-phone-line/ There are so many online fax services out there that it’s hard to make an informed decision about which one to choose.

The first thing to consider is what kind of a user you are, how often you’ll be faxing, and what features you need. Power User: RingCentral Fax If you are going to be sending sensitive faxes all the time, or you work for a company and you’re trying to choose a service, RingCentral Fax, which is partially owned by Cisco and AT&T, is probably the best choice for your needs, especially since they have a lot of great security features and support for multiple users with separate fax lines. It has all the features you can imagine, including integrations with Outlook, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, and you can even get a toll-free number. It also has a lot of security features that would be useful for businesses or people that are transmitting secure information.

Of course, if you just want to send a few faxes, you can sign up for one of their cheap plans that start under $7 per month… and then just cancel after a month or two. Occasional User If you do need to send the occasional fax, we recommend MyFax, which lets you send up to 10 free pages without having to pay. This doesn’t sound like much, but it’s more pages per month than most people have to fax per year. If you do need to send more pages each month, you can upgrade to a regular plan. You’ll need to confirm your email address in order to send the free fax.

Receiving Faxes If you do need to receive faxes, you’ll have to sign up for a paid service. The service will need to establish a dedicated phone number for your fax line, and that costs money. RingCentral, MyFax, and many other services will do this if you pay. [Read Article] Luckily, you should at least be able to get a free trial — RingCentral offers 30 days of free fax receiving, for example. There are many fax services to use, and if you just need to send the occasional fax, you can manage to do that for free, but if you want to receive a fax, you’ll end up needing to sign up for a trial account. You can always cancel if you want.

Massachusetts Driver's Licenses Not Up to Snuff for Federal Government - News and reviews - Boston.com

Bay State residents can no
longer use their driver’s licenses to get inside some government
agencies because the state is one of nine that have not signed on to a
federal law called REAL ID. If nothing changes, they will even lose the
ability to display their licenses to board a plane.
The REAL ID measure presses
states to verify citizenship and update security standards when they
issue licenses. Congress intended the act to prevent terrorists who
arrive in the country illegally from boarding planes. But officials in
Massachusetts and elsewhere have balked at a program they contend costs
millions, raises privacy concerns, and infringes on states’ rights.
